Columbus Dispatch Letter to the Editor: Brown supports car safety for women

We are writing to express our gratitude to Sen. Sherrod Brown for advocating for equal car crash safety.

Car crash tests are only required to use crash test dummies that are shaped like "average" men, something that isn’t talked about enough. This means that the tests don't typically get any data about how the bodies of females react to crashes.

Thousands of women are injured or killed in auto crashes each year due to these unequal standards.

Brown has asked the U.S. Department of Transportation and Secretary Pete Buttigieg to immediately make changes, but the government is continuing to delay implementing new dummies and improving crash standards.

We need to all stand with him in fighting for this cause.

Brown's support of equal crash testing will make us safer. It will also make America more competitive. Crash testing programs outside of the U.S. are making strides to accommodate a wider range of body types.

Brown's commitment to inclusive safety measures in the automotive industry is making Ohio's roads safer for everyone and ensuring that our vehicles can compete all around the world.

He deserves to be commended for it.
