Studies show that death rates for women can range from 9% to 28% higher than men. How much more likely women are to sustain an injury than men in a car crash? - 73%

Our mission is to educate about, and advocate for, updated crash testing standards and practices that protect every body.

Outdated crash test standards risk leaving thousands of women, young people, elderly, and non-average-size males at risk for death and severe injury.

Policymakers, leaders, Members of Congress, and advocates all agree: NHTSA must change its outdated and dangerous biases.

Supporters are actively participating in NCAP’s Comment Period, with over 100 comments submitted to date on this issue specifically requesting that female crash tests include the same number and nature of tests as men, with the most modern and biofidelic crash test equipment

Updating crash testing
can help save lives.

In the U.S., data shows women are 73% more likely than men to be injured in a vehicle crash, because of gender bias in crash testing practices. [1]

Women buy 50% of all vehicles and influence 80% of buying decisions, but in the U.S., female dummies are not required to be crash tested in the driver’s position. [2]

U.S. data shows women are 17%-18.5% more likely to die in a vehicle crash than men. That means over 1,300 preventable deaths per year. [1]

U.S. data suggests more than 1,600 young adults (16-24) and elderly (65+) lives could be saved if vehicle crash test standards were updated. [1]

Both U.S. and E.U. vehicle safety research still can use crash test dummies originally designed in the 1970s that are modeled after the average male body at that time — 5’9’’ and 171 pounds. [1]
